 Pennsylvania Rockers Gallery

Welcome to the Pennsylvania Rocking Chair website. The chairs I build are all individually crafted to your specifications. Just as no two people are exactly the same, no two of these chairs are the same. I gather information about your proportions (height, approximate weight, body type, etc.) and specific measurements that are key to building a chair that will fit you well.

Likewise, your chair will be designed by you. Chairs are available in Cherry, Walnut, English Walnut, and Maple. You can also specify highly figured versions of the woods you select such as Curly or Quilted Cherry or Birds Eye and Tiger Maple. In addition to the wood, some design features are tailored to each chair such as the degree of vertical arc of the headrest, the back brace wood and the use of accents, as seen in some of the chairs below.

Each chair takes 3 to 4 weeks to build and costs $4000.
1. Quilted Cherry Chair with Ash Accents (in the style of Thomas Moser)from a head on view.
2. Walnut Chair with Cherry accents in the rockers and the back braces. I can use a variety of woods for accents to your chair or none if that is your wish.
3. Quilted Cherry Chair with Ash Accents
4. Walnut Chair with Cherry Accents from a side view.
5. Quilted Cherry from side view.
6. Back leg arm and seat joints illustrate the fine joinery used to build this chair.
7. Front leg seat joint.
8. The back braces are not glued into the seat or the headrest, but rather are "captured" allowing them to float freely and conform to the unique curvature of the sitter's back. Notice the book match of the grain of the back braces. This is true front and back.
9. The flex of the laminated back braces.
10. The headrest is coopered (in the same fashion as wooden barrels are made) to achieve a 36 to 40 degree sweep. It would be much easier to orient the headrest horizontally but coopering allows the grain to remain vertical, matching the direction of every other piece of the chair.
11. The armrest is deeply scooped to comfortably support the full length of your arm.
12. The incredible curly grain of this Pennsylvania Cherry flows from the seat and the arm rests up the back legs and through the headrest.
